CCS girls overwhelm SPVA’s competition

The Chase County girls’ track team won 15 of 17 events en route to a 100 point win at the SPVA conference meet Friday at Grant.
“Anytime you can score 200 points in a track meet scoring six places it is a good day,” CCS Head Coach Troy Hauxwell said.
CCS beat second place North Platte St. Pat’s 219-111.
“The girls competed well and we are able to set some new PRs. It was nice to be able to compete well going into the last two weeks of the season,” Hauxwell said.
Bryn McNair claimed 400, 800 and high jump titles. B. McNair’s 400 meter run time of 58.19 was a personal record, school record and meet record.
Kamrie Dillan won the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Chloe Dillan was third in the 100 meter dash with a PR and second in the 200 meter dash.
Lucy Spady won the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs.
Jerzee Milner won both hurdle races and set a personal best in the 100 meter hurdles.
In the field events, Kaylie Lotspeich won both throwing events and Jordan Jablonski won the pole vault.
CCS swept the relays. Milner, K. Dillan, C. Dillan and Jablonski ran the 400 meter relay. K. Dillan, Jablonski, Ali McNair and B. McNair ran the 1,600 meter relay. Spady, A. McNair, Weiss and Jablonski took the 3,200 meter crown.
Kora Weiss placed second in the 400 and 800 meters. A. McNair took third in the 800 with a PR.
Despite all the wins, Hauxwell said his favorite part of the day is always just watching the girls encourage each other and compete.
“We had some girls that had to step up in clutch times to win and they were able to do that. There were big performances in finals to win events,” Hauxwell said.
The team set 16 personal records, which is big for confidence going into next week, Hauxwell said, and the weather helped with that accomplishment.
Many team members helped at the CCS junior high meet the day before and coaches wondered if being on their feet Thursday, then the warm day Friday, made a difference in performances.
“I think the girls handled the heat all right, but were definitely tired,” Hauxwell said.
He pointed out the junior high meet had around 1,200 entries and as a coach you don’t always think about high school athletes being on their feet all day in the sun the day before and how it affects them.
“I felt like it caught up with the girls a little on Friday as they were really unable to eat well and stay hydrated helping with the junior high meet all day,” Hauxwell said.
Best of Midwest
CCS will sent its best performers to the Best of the Midwest Tuesday in Sutherland, while JV athletes traveled to North Platte.
Entries listed for CCS at Best of the Midwest were K. Dillan, 100 meter dash; C. Dillan, 100 and 200 meter dash; Bryn McNair, 400 meter dash and high jump; Kora Weiss, 800 meter run; Lucy Spady, 3,200 meters; Jerzee Milner and Joee Clevenger, 100 and 300 meter hurdles; Kaylie Lotspeich, shot put and discus; Jordan Jablonski and Ali McNair, pole vault; Liz Reeves, triple jump; 400 meter relay; 1,600 meter relay and 3,200 meter relay.
Hauxwell said, with only one heat in all events at Sutherland, the track meet goes extremely fast and it is difficult for kids to compete in all of their events.
DCS meet Friday
On Friday, the Longhorns will head to the Dundy County-Stratton Twilight.
“The Dundy County-Stratton Twilight has always been a good meet for us to fine tune, set some PRs and sometimes for our individual team members to compete against each other in open events,” Hauxwell said.
The twilight will be the final regular season meet before districts May 13 in Sutherland.
