CCS girls’ track team knows there is hard work ahead

The Chase County girls’ track team won 17 of 18 events at last week’s Perkins County Triangular, but the team knows tougher days lie ahead, starting with Thursday’s Ogallala Ed Moore Invite.
With such a large number of athletes never participating in a high school meet before, CCS Head Coach Troy Hauxwell said the Perkins County Meet is always a good starting point to begin and see where CCS athletes are early in the season.
“It allows us to get every team member two or three events and an initial mark for the season. The schedule moves quickly so it is kind of a glorified training day away from our own track,” Hauxwell said.
After missing out on a lot last year, Hauxwell said he was proud of how everyone performed in this season’s opening meet.
Kamrie Dillan took wins in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, plus the long jump and as a member of the 400 meter relay.
Jerzee Milner swept both hurdle events and ran legs of the 400 and 1,600 meter relays.
Jordan Jablonski took first in the pole vault and ran legs on all three winning relays.
Bryn McNair won the 400 and 800 meters, as well as the high jump and as a member of the 1,600 meter relay.
Kaylie Lotspeich swept the throwing events.
The team will look to duplicate and improve on their performances in Ogallala.
“This is the toughest meet of the year. We will get tested. It will let us know where we stand in the area and for the rest of the season,” Hauxwell said.
Hauxwell highlighted Ogallala and Sidney as teams to watch out for, but said the meet is loaded with quality opponents. Several schools already have a couple meets under their belts.
“We’re going to be tested. We have got to be ready to go and we have to have a good day,” Hauxwell said, adding that CCS hasn’t lost very many regular season meets over the last several years.
“We expect to succeed and we need everyone to make each other better,” Hauxwell said.
The Ogallala meet kicks off at  10 a.m. with the field events.
