Broncos ready for district track meet

With one last regular season meet under their belts, the Wauneta-Palisade boys’ and girls’ track teams are ready for the postseason.
WP was at the Best of the Midwest May 4.
The Broncos took four individuals and a relay to the meet.
Grant Walker won the 100 meter dash and placed third in the 200.
Braxton McKinney placed sixth in the high jump and Ryleigh McCrumb was seventh in the 800 meter run.
A bad handoff in the girls’ 400 meter relay cost WP, but Doetker said it was great to have the team running against good competition.
Doetker said she thought her team did very well and, even though it was very tough competition, it was a great experience.
The Broncos were back on the track Friday at the Dundy County-Stratton Twilight.
Walker won the 100 and 200 meter dashes.
McKinney placed second in the high jump.
Cali Cox led the WP girls with a second place finish in the long jump. Cox was also fourth in the 100 meter dash.
Zoey Boos and McCrumb had third place finishes in the 1,600 meter and 800 meter runs, respectively.
Doetker said it was a great day for her team at DCS. With 11 girls’ PRs and five boys’ PRs the Broncos were knocking on the door of its goal for the day.
Up next
Doetker said her team is ready to go for the D-7 District track meet Wednesday in Bertrand.
The first session of field events will begin at 9:30 a.m. MT.
Running events will begin at 12 noon MT.
Joining WP will be Arapahoe, Bertrand, Cambridge, Dundy County-Stratton, Hitchcock County, Loomis, Maywood/Hayes Center, Medicine Valley, Southwest and Wallace.
First and second places in individual running events will advance to the state meet, plus the next six fast times across all Class D district meets.
In the relays, first place teams will qualify for state, then the next seven fastest times across all D districts.
In long jump, triple jump, shot put and discus, the top two will head to Omaha, with the next six best district performances going as well.
Pole vault has a qualifying standard of 12’6” for boys. Automatic qualifying for high jump is 6’0” for boys and 4’11” for girls. The top two from each district qualify for state, plus anyone who clears qualifying standards.
