Broncos first at Paxton, second at Brady

The Wauneta-Palisade volleyball team sits in eighth in the Class D2 point standings after a 3-1 week.
The Broncos opened their week with their fifth-straight Paxton Tournament championship.
WP took down Potter-Dix (6-9) in the first match of the night. The Broncos quickly took a 5-2 lead and steadily increased it. A five-point serving run by Izzy Stehno set WP up with match point and the Broncos quickly won 25-15.
Set two was much closer. Most of the set stayed within two points. WP trailed 16-18 until serving runs by GraCee Goings and Cali Cox erased a 18-19 deficit and gave WP a 25-20 win.
Cox and Alexa Sandman each had six kills for WP.
Paxton (7-9) beat Wallace 25-21, 25-13 to advance to the championship game against WP.
With the match tied at 16 in the first set, Sandman served the Broncos to a three point lead. WP never looked back. Once more, Stehno set up set point and the Broncos won 25-16.
The Tigers broke open a 15-15 tie to take the second set 20-25.
With the tourney title on the line, the teams battled to a tie at 14.
Goings increased a 19-17 lead to match point from the service line and WP took a 25-19 win.
Saturday the Broncos fell one win short of their second tournament title for the week.
WP beat 5-6 Sandhills Valley 25-21, 25-22 in its first game of the Brady Tournament.
WP took on 13-4 Anselmo-Merna in the championship match.
The Broncos battled back from a 8-12 deficit in the first set to tie the game at 17. The Coyotes jumped ahead again, 23-20, but WP had an answer. Sandman finished off the match, serving the Broncos to a 25-23 win.
In the second set, WP held a 14-6 lead. The lead evaporated, however, and WP lost the set 25-27.
The final set was just as close.
Featuring 14 ties, WP held off two match points, but couldn’t take advantage of three match points of their own in a 28-30 loss.
