Broncos battle RPAC competition at Paxton

The Wauneta-Palisade girls’ 400 meter relay had the school’s top finish at Friday’s RPAC track meet.
Running in Paxton, the Bronco team, made up of Alexa Sandman, Haylee Sandman, Halle Bardsley and Cali Cox, were 0.68 of a second ahead of Bertrand and two seconds ahead of third place Medicine Valley.
Grant Walker had a good day for the Bronco boys, finishing second in the 100 and 200 meter dashes behind Bertrand’s Ethan Klingenberg.
Braxton McKinney placed second in the high jump with a leap of 5’10”.
Placing fifth was H. Sandman in the 100 meter dash, A. Sandman in the 110 meter hurdles and C. Cox in the long jump, as well as the boys’ 400 meter relay team of McKinney, Laiden Lawler, Walker and Kyle Jutten.
A computer error kept C. Cox and A. Sandman out of the finals of the 100 and 200 meter dashes, respectively.
Overall, Broncos’ Head Coach Dawn Doetker said her team did well and she was proud of how they competed.
WP’s girls finished with 15 and the boys six PRs.
The Broncos sent the girls’ 400 meter relay team, Walker, McKinney and McCrumb to the Best of the Midwest Tuesday.
WP will be at the Dundy County-Stratton Twilight Friday before districts Wednesday, May 12.
Doetker said it will be good to get one more meet under WP’s belt to prepare for districts.
District D7 will have Arapahoe, Bertrand, Cambridge, Dundy County-Stratton, Hitchcock County, Loomis, Maywood/Hayes Center, Medicine Valley, Southwest, Wallace and WP at Bertrand.
