Bronco football falls to Wallace in regular season finale

Missed chances early in its Friday left the Wauneta-Palisade football team on the short side of 6-52 game.
After Wallace scored on its first possession of the game, WP drove to the Wildcats’ five-yard line. WP’s drive stalled there when a pass fell incomplete on fourth and five.
Wallace scored on the first play of the second quarter, leaving WP trailing 0-16.
Starting at there own 34-yard line, the Broncos drove to Wallace’s 34 where an incomplete pass stopped the drive on fourth and one.
After the Wildcats scored again, WP was forced to punt. A poor kick set Wallace up deep in Bronco territory and the Wildcats scored again.
Another Wallace touchdown left WP trailing 0-30 at the half.
WP Co-Head Coach Joseph Frecks said the Broncos feel like if they had been able to take advantage of some opportunities in the first quarter it would have been a completely different game.
The Broncos got on the board in the third quarter when Grant Walker followed up a Wallace touchdown with a kickoff return for a touchdown. Wallace, unfortunately, returned the favor on the ensuing kick.
    Injuries also hampered WP.
“We had a couple key players not able to play due to injury, that may have had some impact on the game as well,” Frecks said, but added Wallace is a very balanced and well coached sound team.
“They are district champions, and they have the potential to make a deep playoff run,” he said.
Kyle Jutten led WP with 46 yards rushing.
Garrett Hanna led the Broncos in tackles and completed 11-16 passes for 84 yards.
Frecks said he and Co-Head Coach Randy Geier are very proud of the way the team kept playing hard and finished the game in the second half.
“This team has been very close and stuck together all season long, and they showed their character in the second half with their effort,” Frecks said.
