WP speech team competes at RPAC

With its season disrupted by the COVID pandemic, the Wauneta-Palisade speech team finally had its first meet of the season last week.
WP traveled to Culbertson for the conference competition Feb. 17.
The duo of senior Olivia Behrends and junior Katelyn Parrish-Yell were first in duet speaking for the their piece called “The Rope Swings.”
Two freshmen also competed. Sonya Behrends was sixth in entertainment speaking about the Whovian conspiracy theory. In oral interpretation of poetry, Hailea Baker placed eighth for her piece, “Beauty,”
Advisor Tayler Nordhausen said overall it was a very successful meet, considering it was the team’s first performance of the year.
District speech will be March 8 in Callaway and the state meet is March 19 in Kearney.
The Chase County speech team will participate online in the Best of the West Wednesday this week. Districts for CCS will be March 6 at Ainsworth.
