Towns, Schilke travel to Perkins Co. Speech Meet

Chase County’s Tegan Towns and Brooke Schilke opened the 2021 speech season with performances at the Perkins County Speech Meet Jan. 30.
Each participated in poetry.
Towns’ performance was about the seven deadly sins. She placed first and fourth in the prelims, but didn’t finish in the top six. Towns did win honors finals, which was between students who were seventh through 12th in the prelims.
Speech Advisor Alex Schilke said Towns, the team’s only senior, has been an excellent team member and role model for younger students.
B. Schilke’s performance featured the theme of love.
For her first meet, Advisor Schilke said B. Schilke did well and placed fourth in both prelims.
“She’ll get better with practice and feed back,” A. Schilke said.
A large meet like Perkins County was a good way to start the season, she added.
Wauneta-Palisade and Chase County will attend Saturday’s Sutherland Speech Meet.
Advisor Schilke said the meet isn’t as big as the Perkins County meet, but is usually well attended. She’s hopeful six or seven CCS students will attend.
With the Chase County and Wallace Speech Meets canceled in January, Sutherland will be WP’s first meet.
