NSAA plaques go to Chase Co. vocalists; honorable mentions to five musicians
Two of Chase County’s vocal music groups received the coveted NSAA plaque, while five musicians received an honorable mention in the outstanding performance rankings.
All that came at Friday’s District V Music Contest hosted by Chase County Schools.
The day brought close to 500 students from 12 areas schools, all classes, to the spring contest.
Chase County’s mixed chorus and the 9th St. Singers, both under the direction of Jodie Liess, earned superior (I) rankings from all three judges. That earned them the NSAA plaque.
In each of the small ensemble and solo categories, one outstanding performance and two honorable mentions were selected by judges.

CCS musicians earned three of those honorable mention selections—Virginia Kimble on also saxophone, the girls’ vocal duet of Delaney Krutsinger and Madelynn Hanes and the boys’ vocal duet of Nick Rau and Arturo Miscles.
Kimble was one of 42 in her instrumental division, while the two sets of CCS duets competed with 11 in their category, said CCS music teacher Jodie Liess, who coordinated the contest.
Besides CCS, other schools competing here Friday included Wauneta-Palisade, Arapahoe, Cambridge, Dundy Co. Stratton, Eustis-Farnam, Hayes Center, Hitchcock Co., Maywood, McCook, Medicine Valley and Southwest.
