More graduates awarded post-secondary degrees

    College graduates with ties to the area continue to receive post-secondary degrees across the state.
    Here is a recap of graduates with ties to Chase County:
Dawn Castle
    Earning a Bachelor of Science Degree from Peru State College this month was Dawn Castle of Imperial.
    She graduated with a triple major in Human Resources, Accounting and Management. While at Peru, she was involved in Phi Beta Lambda, was a mentor for Student Success Services and a volunteer coordinator for high school business contests.
    She has accepted a position as a recruiter in the Human Resources Department at Watco in Kansas City.
    Her parents are Larry and Susan Castle of Imperial.
Roseanna Vapenik
    Roseanna Vapenik of Wauneta was among 36 Associate Degree Nursing students honored at a pinning/commencement ceremony May 7 at North Platte Community College.
    Since October 2014, she has worked as an LPN  at Chase County Clinic, has served as the Emergency Response Coordinator for Chase County Community Hospital and is on several committees.
    When she returns to work in June, she will move to nursing  work on the floor at the hospital. She also continues as a Wauneta EMS member.
    Vapenik was a 2008 graduate of Hayes Center High School. She and husband Dirk and four children reside south of Wauneta.
Josie Peterson
    Josie Peterson graduated May 15 from Hastings College  at its 135th commencement ceremony.
    She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry, and is currently applying for positions in the genetics and DNA research area.
    Outside the academic realm at Hastings College, Peterson was a three-time indoor and three-time outdoor national meet qualifier in the pole vault as part of the women’s track and field team.
    The 2017 graduate of Chase County Schools is the daughter of Bruce and Crystal Peterson of Imperial.
