Linsey Foote appointed to CCS board

Chase County Schools board members voted unanimously last week to name Linsey Foote of Imperial to its vacant board position.
Her appointment was the first action item on the Aug. 10 agenda, after which Foote took the seat vaca-ted by Laura Maddox.
Maddox resigned last month as her family completed their move to Lincoln. Maddox was elected in November 2020, so Foote will fill out her term through December 2024.
Foote said she’s excited to serve on the board and had even considered running for a position last fall.
She was flattered the board committee chose her, she said, after being asked by board member Willy O’Neil if she’d be okay with having her name submitted.
“I’m excited to be back in education. I love this town, this community and school,” she said.
She’s looking forward to giving of her time, she added.
Foote holds a BS degree in ag economics from the University of Missouri, and a Master’s in Elementary Education from Rockhurst University in Kansas City.
She was teaching fifth grade when she and husband Brad, who owns Imperial Beef, moved to Imperial in December 2006. She did some substitute teaching at CCS when their children were younger.
Foote also serves on the Imperial Community Foundation Fund advisory committee and is involved in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, where she’s taught CCD classes 12 years.
She and Brad’s children include Harrison, an 8th grader; Tilly in 7th grade; and London, who starts kindergarten this week.
Board President Karl Meeske said the board committee had eight names to consider for the appointment, all suggested by board members. From those eight, the committee discussed each nominee individually, ending up with a top 3 ranking.
Foote was the first on the list, he said, so a time was set up with her to visit about the position. She was interested in the appointment, and gained the committee’s recommendation to fill the vacancy, he said.
Meeske said not all candidates were interviewed. Some were unaware they were nominated. He said the committee would have visited with others if Foote had declined the appointment. If that had occurred, their plan was to go on to #2, then #3 on their list, and others, if necessary
“One of the things we were looking at out of the eight names was someone who might have some educational background and Linsey did,” he said.
“We felt she’d have some good insights she could give to the board,” he added.
Members of the board appointment committee were Meeske, O’Neil, Cindy Arterburn and Dan Reeves.
