“Color Palette” Kate Parrish

Kate Parrish is WP’s art medal winner at RPAC

“Color Palette,” an acrylic painting, earned Kate Parrish the Wauneta-Palisade school medal at the RPAC Art Contest.
The contest was held Jan. 20 at Cambridge. WP took 10 pieces.
Parrish also earned WP’s first honorable mention with another acrylic work, “Machine,” and third honorable mention with “Toddler,” done with watercolor and markers.
At the RPAC  contest, a medalist and three honorable mentions are awarded to students in each school.
“Kate Parrish has really grown in her confidence making art,” WP art teacher Danny Schluckebier said.
“She uses her hands and fingers to blend and mix colors, not hesitant to manipulate the material any way that will work for her,” he said, adding he has huge expectations for Parrish.
Lillie Miner, a senior, is always working hard and committed to finishing her senior year with great accomplishments, Schluckebier said. Miner’s acrylic painting, “Salt Teeth,” was WP’s second honorable mention.
“She has always been creative and having her in class is a joy to see her express herself making artwork,” he said.
Medicine Valley’s Noah Nicklas’ work “Spring Trot” was Best in Show.
Schluckebier believes WP was in the top three or four for Best of Show.
“There was a lot of great and creative artwork from our schools. It is a different atmosphere than a normal art show, we can talk as teachers and really just relax and look at some really good art,” he said.
Select pieces from each school are included in the traveling art show that will make stops at each of the 15 RPAC schools.
SPVA show to be virtual
Students in the SPVA Conference, including Chase County Schools, will take part in a virtual art show in April, said CCS art teacher Chelsea Zuege.
Both CCS and WP attend the McCook high school art show and paint-in, as well.
