Nebraska Extension in Perkins and Chase Counties hosted an Environmental Ed Day at Enders Reservoir May 15 for Perkins and Chase County Schools third and fourth grade students.
Students participated in seven activities covering water’s journey on earth.
Activities included water insects by Perkins-Chase Extension water and cropping systems, Samantha Daniel and Nebraska Game and Parks’ Isaac Young; Storm water by Red Willow Extension water and cropping systems Ruby Collins; H2O Olympics by Red Willow Extension Educator Donna Kircher; Blue Planet with Hayes, Hitchcock and Dundy County Extension Educator Kimberly Cook; and Incredible Journey with Perkins-Chase Extension Educator Debbie Kuenning.
Lessons by URNRD’s Danielle Haarberg and Julia Strand at a watershed table and Pheasant Forever’s Heather Francis and Malissa Irish’s lesson on landfills covered ways to protect our water sources from pollution.
The Enders’ event was the last of three Environmental Ed Days for Southwest Nebraska students, following days in McCook and Swanson Reservoir, which included Maywood/Hayes Center, Wauneta/Palisade, Hitchcock County and Dundy County/Stratton Students.
Environmental Ed Day was also the final Extension programming event for the 2024-25 school year. Other Extension programs reaching students during the school year were Next Chapter for W/P high school students, Connecting the Dots for CCS freshmen and sophomores and Healthy Habits Day for fifth and sixth graders from Wauneta/Palisade and Chase County.
