C.C. Vet. Memorial Foundation Scholarship offered

    The Chase County Veterans Memorial Foundation is offering a $500 scholarship to Chase County Students, which includes Chase County School and Wauneta/Palisade School Seniors.
    To qualify, students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale to be eligible. Students must be current high school seniors planning to enroll in a College or University.
    This scholarship is open to students from any academic discipline in all fields of study.
    Students must meet one of the following criteria for eligibility to the scholarship: Be a family member of a U. S. military veteran,(active duty, retired or honorably discharged), or have demonstrated a commitment to supporting veterans and/or veteran causes in the community through volunteer work or service projects.
    The Foundation will offer, Adopt a Veterans Resting Place for a service project. All applicants must be sponsored by a committee member and complete community service such as helping with flags on memorial day, possibly helping the Lions members with flags on patriotic days or just taking care of a veterans grave site.
    Each applicant may pick the veteran they wish to adopt, but must be approved by the committee. This will include all veterans in any of the Chase County Cemeteries.
    The applicant will be responsible for providing proof of service to their sponsor, such as taking pictures or a signed statement from the supervising entity.
    Adoption may be terminated by committee if no service is done. A name plate will be displayed at the grave site with the adoptees name on it.
    Application Materials are: a completed application form; provided by the Foundation’s Scholarship Committee; a submitted , maximum 500 word essay, on the importance of honoring veterans or supporting veteran causes and a letter of recommendation from a teacher, employer or community leader. Also a document or signed statement detailing their volunteer service to veteran- related causes.
    Applications must be turned in by April 15, 2025 and are available from the High school counselor.
