Area graduates receive first Galen Todd scholarships

Galen Todd grew up in Benkelman and graduated with the Class of 1972. He attended Western Nebraska Technical College to study Auto Body in Sidney, graduating in 1974.         He then began working for Sinner’s Paint & Body Shop in Wauneta, were he worked until his passing.
Todd enjoyed taking his children Scott, Steven and Sara fishing and watching NASCAR.
In 2001, Todd and his children helped Susan get Susie’s Creative Stitches up and running. After finishing work at Sinner’s, he would come home and digitize designs for Susie’s.
In August 2020, he purchased a building in Wauneta where he had plans to create his dream shop to tinker on things with his family. Susan would not be far away as it is also the future home of Susie’s Creative Stitches. He spent many late nights working on the building.
Todd’s true love was his family. He was an avid Wauneta-Palisade Bronco fan, supporting his children and grandchildren at sporting events. He also enjoyed watching and supporting his nieces and nephews from Dundy County.
Since his death in January, Todd’s family and friends created a $500 memorial scholarship. Two scholarships will be awarded annually, one to a Wauneta-Palisade graduating senior and one from Dundy Co. Stratton.
The first scholarship recipients are Class of 2021 members Anthony Sramek of Palisade and Coy Fell of Haigler.
Sramek plans to attend WyoTech in Laramie, Wyoming and Fell will be enrolled at Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis.
