Work continues on Hill’s expansion project

Posts for the expansion at Hill’s Family Foods are set and construction continues, with an anticipated completion date in March.
Work on the expansion at the store site at 131 East 5th Street began in December.
“Everything’s going good,” Owner Dirk Hill said.
The store was closed Monday until 2 p.m. “but that wasn’t because of the construction crew work,” he added. The electrical systems were being updated to the building from the city.
While closed, the construction crew from Amendt Custom Buildings out of Sedgwick, Colorado were able to get all but one of the posts in place.
Roof trusses were scheduled to go up Wednesday and windows should be going in next week, Hill said.
“Then we’ll start to see siding going up,” he added.
While the outside work is being done, Hill is keeping busy resetting shelves inside.
“It’s kind of stressful,” he laughed.
Hill admitted the upgrades have been an inconvenience for shoppers.
“Half of the parking lot is taken up,” he said. “But we’re trying to keep the north side of the building clear so people can park along the street. That’s probably the most convenient thing for them.
“We’ve been very fortunate with weather,” Hill added.
Even Monday night’s snow didn’t set them back.
“The crew maybe got here an hour late, but it wasn’t anything major,” he said.
Hill has been keeping customers and the public notified of progress and updates via the Hill’s Family Foods Facebook page.
