Walker says he’s the real deal

Clay Walker says that as a country music artist, he can hang his cowboy hat on one thing: Authenticity.
“The fact that I’m a cowboy I think is different,” said Walker in a telephone interview from Oklahoma, where he was competing in Toby Keith’s charity golf tournament.
“It’s nice, knowing that there are a lot of people that relate to that. Being a rancher is something that’s been in my family since the 1700s. I think that shows through in the way I am.
“Also in our social media, people get to see a lot of what I do around our ranch, just know that it’s a lifestyle, something that people find interesting and authentic.”
Walker, 49, will close out the 2019 Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska with a concert Saturday night.
The performance will be part of a tour supporting his latest album called, fittingly enough, “Long Live the Cowboy.”
That tour started in Canada in April before moving back down to the U.S. and will last through October. After that, he said, he’ll take some time off and go back into the studio in November.
Walker said Saturday’s performance will be heavy on hits.
“The thing that people want to hear most are hits. They want to hear songs they can sing along to. We have enough hits to play an entire show, which is wonderful. And we’ll throw a couple of new ones in there,” he said.
