Shari’s receives monthly Chamber recognition

■ Editor’s note: The Imperial Chamber of Commerce selects a Business of the Month, which will be identified that month with a banner. Selection is made at the monthly Chamber meetings, and this newspaper is featuring a story on that business each month.

Shari Briggs opened shop in Imperial in 1989 at 126 West 4th Street.
Her business, then called Shari’s Ceramics and Wood, moved to its current location at 505 Broadway in May 1996.
On Christmas Day 2000, an electrical fire started at Moreland Realty, just next door to Shari’s.
The smoke from the fire escaped into Briggs’ building, damaging her greenware.
“It took me almost a year to reopen,” she said. “That’s when I did the gift store.”
Greenware is unfired pottery and is very fragile.
Julie Pflum is the current manager at Shari’s.
Pflum started in June, “but I’ve been in retail forever so it’s not hard to run things,” she said.
Shari’s gift shop has items such as cards, jewelry, handbags, kids’ items and mugs.
Another service offered at Shari’s is tuxedo rental through Jim’s Formal Wear.
Shari’s is open Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The store is closed Sundays and Mondays.
