Shari’s begins gradual reduction in inventory

Shari Briggs, owner of Shari’s at 505 Broadway, has been in business for approximately 40 years, but will eventually close her long-standing business.
Briggs announced that her store, known for its gift line and collectibles, would begin the liquidation process Jan. 2 in preparation of eventually closing.
“During the month of January, we will have discounts on Christmas items. After that, we will have weekly specials on different categories of items,” Briggs said.
Store manager Julie Pflum said business has increased since the announcement of the liquidation sale.
“Over the last few weeks, Christmas items have been flying out the door. We sold every nativity scene we had,” Pflum said.
The vast amount of inventory will take awhile to sell, Briggs said.
“I’m not in a hurry. It’s just time to start depleting the inventory. I expect it may take one and a half to two years to get it all sold,” said Briggs.
She said she has always enjoyed the business, but several factors entered into her decision to eventually close the store.
“People don’t come into the store as much when they can shop online. I’m not the only store affected. There’s nothing wrong with it—it is what it is,” she said.
Briggs also added that she is past retirement age and she and her husband, Dan, now live in Grant.
