Senior FFA member Valerie Herbert is continuing work on her supervised agricultural experience (SAE) this summer while working on a local farm.
Herbert works for Tim Varilek during the summer and harvest seasons.
“I kind of just do a mixture of jobs,” Herbert said.
“This last harvest season I learned how to drive the grain cart,” she added.
Herbert also services pivots and mixes and hauls organic fertilizer to the field.
“My job always provides me opportunities to learn something new. My time working on the farm has taught me how to problem-solve, overcome my fears, step out of my comfort zone in order to learn new skills and accomplish challenging tasks,” she said.
Herbert was one of six Imperial FFA seniors who met the qualifications to earn the State FFA Degree this year.
She was also a member of the national-winning parliamentary procedure team last October.
Herbert is the senior historian for the FFA chapter, and served as chairwoman for her parli pro team.
