Chase County senior Jozie Schilke has added another item to her list of FFA accomplishments this year.
Last week, Nebraska FFA announced Schilke’s proficiency won first place in the grain production category.
Her proficiency includes production of 320 acres of crop ground.
Schilke is involved with all aspects of crop production, from operating the planter to running the combine during harvest.
She does a crop rotation of corn and wheat each year.
“It feels really great that I was able to achieve another goal on my list,” Schilke said. “I do not know for sure if my proficiency will go on to nationals and I don’t know how the contest will work for the national level.”
Proficiency applications highlight FFA members’ Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs). After advancing from districts, Schilke’s proficiency was ranked in the top three in Nebraska.
State proficiency winners in each category (there are more than 30) advance to a national round, where four will be chosen to compete nationally.
With the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic, it hasn’t been announced if the National FFA Convention will be held this fall.
In October, Schilke was also a member of the national champion senior parliamentary procedure team.
Earlier this month, she was named a state FFA officer for the 2020-21 year. She also earned her State FFA Degree.
