Republican recognized by Secretary of State

The Imperial Republican was honored Friday with a Civics Recognition Award from Nebraska Secretary of State John Gale.
Gale and his wife, Carol, arrived Friday morning to present The Republican with a plaque recognizing outstanding news coverage during the elections in 2016.
Gale apologized for his tardiness in getting this award presented due to changes in staff.
Gale said articles published  by the Republican gave readers a wide variety of significant election issues, including topics of particular importance to Gale and his office, including the death penalty and the petition for horse racing/gambling.
Since 2008, Gale has given this award to individuals, organizations and media outlets who make an effort to educate voters.
The award was also presented to the Keith County News (Ogallala), the McCook Gazette, the Kearney Hub and the Omaha Star.
Secretary of State Gale will be retiring from his office after the 2018 General Election.
