Nutrien to begin building work this month

At last week’s city council meeting, administration replats were approved for the Nutrien plant on East Hwy. 6-61.
The approval essentially establishes a Nutrien Subdivision at the site.
With the rewriting of property lines approved, Nutrien can proceed with a major new building and expansion project.
Demolition of some older buildings—some as old as mid-70s—has already taken place.
Right now, Facility Manager Slater Chandler said dirt work is underway.
“We’re getting ready for concrete in the next couple of weeks,” he said.
Last week, Cahoj Earthmoving, Inc. of Atwood, Kansas started the teardown process. Cahoj also started dirt work this week.
“We wanted to go with locals as much as we could,” Chandler said. Brophy Electric is one of those local businesses.
Demolition started last week on the old plant, with part of the tall smoke stacks torn down. The rest of the plant will be torn down on Tuesday, weather pending, Chandler said.
Once building permits are in city officials’ hands, Nutrien will begin work on the warehouse and the plant. Weather and other stalls pending, those two pieces should be completed by March, with the office portion—to be connected to the warehouse—completed shortly after.
