NRA Foundation awards more than $6,700 to county’s 4-H Shooting Program

The NRA Foundation has awarded the Chase County 4-H Shooting Program $6,765.37 in shooting sports equipment.
“We are very excited about the grant, “ said Chris Tomky, 4-H shooting instructor, “and pleased that the NRA is making an investment in our community.”
The Chase County Shooting Sports Program has been instructing youths on gun use and safety for many years and some of the equipment has been on hand for more than 20 years.
The new equipment will allow many 4-H youths to practice with up-to-date equipment and families will not need to purchase equipment to take part in this 4-H project, Tomky said.
“We are so pleased to add to the opportunities for our 4-H youths with the addition of new shooting equipment,” she said.
The equipment purchased with the grant funds will include air rifles, air pistols, small-bore rifles, 22 pistols, BB guns, Diopter peep sights, pistol cases, target boxes and shooting glasses.
Tomky added, “A special thank-you to anyone supporting NRA. Your continued support will maintain the efforts to continue this grant program for other communities in our county.”
Tomky also extended thanks from the Chase County 4-1-1 Shooting Program to 21st Century Equipment, the local John Deere dealer, for the donation of a gun safe to protect the newly acquired NRA shooting equipment.
“The 21st Century John Deere business in Imperial has made a generous commitment to our 4-H members by helping us secure the NRA grant equipment,” she said.
Tomky said the 4-H program is always searching for additional shooting instructors to join the program. Anyone with an interest in teaching youths safe shooting practices can contact the Chase County Extension Office for more information at 308-882-4731.
