Local man to display antique milking machine at thresher show in Kansas

The Tri-State Antique Engine and Thresher Association is hosting its 66th annual thresher show, “Red Power on the High Plains.” The event will be in Bird City, Kansas, July 25-27.
Stan Cross of Lamar will be displaying a 1930s McCormick-Deering 1 1/2 HP gas engine belted to a 1940s McCormick-Deering milking machine at the thresher show.
Cross said he plans to demonstrate the machine—minus the cows.
“It will give a good idea of how it works,” he said.
Cross has been attending the thresher shows for about 50 years and has been a member of the association for approximately 15-20 years, he said.
The three-day show boasts of a good number of displays, activities and good food.
One visitor to the show commented, “Everyone should see how farming used to be done 150 years ago.”
Some of the events will include an antique tractor pull, steam engine races, interactive museum-type displays, live demonstrations and talks, kids activities, an authentic chuck wagon breakfast and fun run.
For more information and a complete list of thresher show events call 785-734-2291 or visit www.threshershow.org.
