In-home care centers open; following 10-person rule

While large child care centers who have more than 10 people are shut down, in-home centers are considered essential.

The two large centers in Imperial, Little Sunshine and Rainbow Promise Preschool, have both closed their doors.

Both centers follow Chase County Schools (CCS) for when they close their doors.

The in-home daycares in town are still open, as long as they adhere to the 10-person guideline.

“And at this point, I guess I’m still kind of waiting to see what happens,” said Marisa Kunnemann of Marisa’s Playhouse. 

“We’re following the CDC  and state guidelines,” she added. “Whether or not we stay open at this point is our decision until they change their mind and tell us we have to close.”

Directors of both Little Sunshine and Rainbow Promise are missing the kids.

“It’s been tough,” said Jennifer Colton of Rainbow Promise. “We miss the kids, that’s for sure.”

While she hasn’t heard directly if parents are struggling to find care for their kids while school is closed and they remain at work, Colton did share with them about the free breakfast/lunch plan through CCS in case that’s an issue.
