December turns in another big sales tax month

    Like many Decembers the past few years, December 2017 proved to be a lucrative one for the city of Imperial’s sales tax collection.
    According to records received last week from the Nebraska Department of Revenue, December 2017 moved into the top five for the largest monthly receipts since the city sales tax began in 2009.
    The city took in $45,413.32 last December, making it the fifth highest month on record.
    December 2013 still holds the top spot for biggest monthly receipts at $46,559.94.
    That’s followed by December 2012 $46,500.46, July 2013 $46,158.63, March 2014 $45,657.93 and last December.
    What’s especially significant about last December’s total is that none of that amount was from motor vehicle sales, said City Clerk Administrator Jo Leyland.
    To double check it, Leyland said she contacted the Department of Revenue. She was told there wasn’t enough to report in December, so what little did come in from vehicle sales will be included in the January reporting.
    Other months in the 2017 fourth quarter brought in the following dollars: October $33,621.40 and November $33,673.24.
