Date set in April for Ag Safety Day

The seventh edition of Chase County’s Progressive Agriculture Safety Day is in the planning stages to be held at the Chase County Fairgrounds in late April.
The Chase County All-Stars 4-H Club is partnering with schools in Chase County to bring this learning experience to K-6 students on April 28.
Home-schooled students are also invited to take part.
Safety Day is designed to increase children’s awareness on a wide variety of hazards, as well as providing hands-on training to help them choose  responsibly and safely when in a rural setting, event coordinator Chris Tomky said.
Some of the topics in the planning stages will touch on  “hidden view” and first aid, she said.
Local support has been outstanding in the past and Tomky said they look forward to that support continuing.
As a school event, the students will attend without cost to parents but Tomky said putting on such an event will require donations and/or goods to make it a success.
Ag Safety Day has acquired the following corporate foundation sponsors—Bunge, Nutrien, CHS, John Deere, TC Energy, Cargill, State Farm, Corteva and Farm Credit along with others, both international and local, Tomky said.
Volunteers will be needed for the day-long event, and it will give high school students the opportunity to fulfill required community service hours, Tomky noted.
Volunteers may sign up online at signupgenius.com using email bctomky@gmail.com to search.
Registration forms will be sent home soon with all K-6 students, said Tomky, and should be returned by April 1.
Contact Tomky at 883-6513 with questions.
