Chase Co. 4-H youths earn high marks at State Fair

Several Chase County 4-H youths earned high marks at State Fair competition, which concluded earlier this month.
However, some competitions and shows were scheduled after the State Fair concluded over the past two weekends, said Extension Educator Debbie Kuenning.
Kendall Prior, a member of the All Stars 4-H Club, took home Grand Champion honors at 4-H Goat Showmanship at the State Fair. Prior was one of 36 contestants in the senior division that included 4-H youths ages 14-18 from across Nebraska. Prior is an eight-year 4-H member.
Two Chase County 4-H members and their dogs, Lindsey and Westyn Mendenhall with dogs Nala and Buster traveled to UNL Animal Science Complex in Lincoln to compete in the State 4-H Dog Show the weekend after the State Fair concluded. It was the first State Dog Show held outside of the State Fair, Kuenning noted.
Lindsey and Buster received Reserve Champion in the rally division. Rally is a dog sport based on obedience. The competitors proceed on a course of designated stations with the dog in heel position. The course has 10 to 20 signs that instruct the team what to do.
Chase County 4-H was well represented at the N150 parade during the Nebraska State Fair, as well.
Members of the Spring Creek 4-H Club from Wauneta and the Challengers 4-H Club from Imperial/Champion represented Nebraska 4-H, marching alongside Chancellor Ronnie Green on Sunday, Sept. 1.
Chase County was the only county in Nebraska with 4-H members marching in the parade.
