Two science displays are regional finalists

Science displays created by two juniors at Chase County Schools placed at a regional science fair and are eligible to move on to the state science fair in April.
Kayla Schilke’s display titled “Fighting Bacteria” and Emma Ferguson’s “What Is Your Stride?”  entry were among just 10 who will move on to state competition from a group of 84 projects.
The CCS science students were among students from six area high schools at the Western Regional Science Fair last Thursday at North Platte Community College. They advanced to regionals from the science fair held at Chase County Schools.
The top 10 winners last Thursday received medals and ribbons, and advanced to the 2017 Nebraska Junior Academy of Sciences State Science Fair April 20 at Nebraska Wesleyan University.
The science meet was sponsored by the Nebraska Academy of Sciences, UNMC’s Area Health Education Center and the Nebraska Coalition For Lifesaving Cures.
A new award was also given out this year. Lincoln Industries donated $125 in cash to an overall winner from Lincoln County. That winner was Landon Klasna of St. Patrick Junior/Senior High School in North Platte.
CCS 7-12 Guidance Counselor Trent Herbert accompanied the CCS students to last Thursday’s science fair, as science teacher Kim Wilson could not attend.
Also taking science displays to the regional event were Jack Bauerle and Ryelee Christensen.
