Fifteen-year-old faces drug charges in school incident

A 15-year-old student at Chase County Schools has been cited for possession and intent to deliver charges after allegedly distributing edibles containing the drug THC last week at Chase County Schools.
THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical responsible for most of marijuana’s psychological effects.
Imperial Police Chief Ryan Wisnieski said his department was initially contacted last Thursday afternoon by 7-12 Principal Jon Lechtenberg.
An investigation at the school was then conducted by officers Daniel Morales and Rob Rust, which included several student interviews.
“Several students stated they’d received the edibles” and had admitted ingesting them, Officer Morales said.
He said they were able to confirm two students who had actually ingested them on Thursday.
The interviews also produced the name of the 15-year-old juvenile who allegedly provided them, Morales said, and who later admitted to it.
During the police interview, Morales said the student admitted to having more edibles and an undetermined amount of loose leaf marijuana in a backpack.
Those drugs were confiscated by police, he said. The juvenile was released after receiving the citation.
The information police gathered was expected to be turned over to County Attorney Arlan Wine this week, Chief Wisnieski said.
After visiting with Wine, the police chief said it’s expected the case will be filed in juvenile court, therefore, names of the students involved were not released.
