Trump running for another term may not be best news

One thing’s for certain—2024 campaign is underway.

It was mentioned in this space last week that 2024 wasn’t that far off for the next U.S. presidential election. Well, it’s right in our faces now with former President Donald Trump’s announcement Tuesday he’s running for another term.
Trump made good on a lot of his 2016 presidential campaign promises. We certainly miss the accomplishments Biden’s administration has taken apart like border control and being self-sufficient in oil production. I’m concerned with all the other baggage that comes with another Trump campaign, however.
Then there are the other, younger, up-and-coming candidates, especially ones like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is now weighing the odds of going up against a former Republican president who has the support of the party’s base, and is considered by most to be the Republican Party’s leader. DeSantis and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio just shattered the Democrats in Florida in last week’s midterms, and have a lot of Republicans looking their way as the party’s future.
Trump was fairly docile Tuesday in his announcement, compared to former speeches, and he will be a credit to himself if he continues that demeanor instead of the more common, condescending remarks about opponents in the past.
According to The Daily Signal, former Vice President Mike Pence, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan are all reportedly considering bids for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.
It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. One thing is certain—we’ve got two years of campaigning already underway.
