Learn more about local candidates

Newspaper begins candidate Q & A series this week.

You may have heard—there’s an election approaching. We all have the responsibility of being informed voters by reading about our candidates, checking out their platforms on websites, reading news stories and watching the TV news. Locally, we can actually talk to them, and thanks to this newspaper, find out where they stand on some issues and questions posed by the Imperial Republican’s news department.
This week begins a series of questions/answers and we’re starting with the Imperial Mayor’s race. Two local men are seeking the office being vacated by Dwight Coleman, who chose not to seek reelection after three terms and 12 years in what’s not always an easy job. Imperial voters have a clear choice because the candidates have different ideas on a couple of issues. Look for their Q & As on page 5 of this week’s newspaper.
The mayor’s Q & As will be followed next week with the city council candidates and, lastly, the CCS board of education hopefuls.
We published several other Q & As before the May Primary when there were runoffs, so will not be covering those races again for the General Election. Many of the partisan races in May we covered then and the Republican candidates had no opposition from the other party.
There’s more to an election than who has the most political signs out and in whose yard they are placed. Take some time to learn about your candidates—we hope our Q & A series helps.
