It’s really our duty to vote

A lot to be decided at next week’s election.

When you think about it, voting is pretty awesome. Some may think one vote doesn’t really count, but I beg to differ. When I enter the voting booth each time, I really do believe what and who I vote for will count.
I don’t need to retell the election stories around the world where one vote REALLY did count—they’re out there. While most elections aren’t decided by that one vote, we’ve had a number of races here in Chase County where the winner was determined by just a handful of votes.
What matters is we should realize that we as Americans have a right not enjoyed by everyone—the right to elect who we want to lead our governments at the local, state and national levels, as well as deciding some important issues. In Nebraska on Nov. 8, we will be deciding on issues related to voter ID and minimum wages.
Next week’s election will be an important one on all of those fronts—local, state and national. If the polls are right, there’s going to be a big of a shake-up on the national level, after which the Democrats will likely no longer hold control of Washington D.C. politics.
Nebraskans will be electing a new Governor, Imperial will see a new mayor and at least one new council member, while both local school boards have races. Make sure to use your right to vote Nov. 8!
