It’s not ‘woke’ to be pro-life

Bill moving through Nebraska Unicameral should be passed.

Positive steps have been taken in the 2022 Nebraska legislative session that will keep Nebraska’s reputation as a pro-life state intact. A bill is moving through the legislative process dealing with limiting abortion further in the state with an eye on the potential overturning of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court later this year.                        In her sponsorship of LB 933, Thurston State Sen. Joni Albrecht said the purpose of it is to protect and promote society’s respect for human life, including the life of the unborn. Her bill would prohibit abortions on live, unborn children upon the occurrence of: the overturn of Roe v. Wade, an amendment to the U.S. Constitution or passage of enabling legislation by Congress.
The bill provides for criminal penalties for any physician who performs an abortion, but allows for medical interventions that are necessary to save the mother’s life.
The bill has advanced to General File,  the first stage a bill is considered by the full Legislature. It has Sen. Dan Hughes’ support.
Science no longer questions that an unborn child is life, not just a blob of tissue as was the argument nearly 50 years ago when Roe v. Wade was upheld by SCOTUS. The issue has shifted to “a woman’s right to choose” ignoring what is really happening in an abortion. It assumes one life is more important than another’s.
Here’s a statement from a Nebraska ACLU attorney on Albrecht’s bill that should have a chilling effect on all of us: “When someone has made the decision to get an abortion, regardless of their reasoning, the government should not stand in their way.” In a country that seems more and more headed to socialism, that statement is right up that alley.
It may not be “woke” to be pro-life today, but there is a growing pro-life movement especially among young Americans. Sen. Albrecht’s bill should be passed.
