Kim (Pflum) West passed away from cancer early Sunday morning on Oct. 7, 2018 in her home in Stratton at the age of 59 surrounded by her family.
She was born on Jan. 14, 1959 to Lloyd Jr. & Donna (Roedel) Pflum in Imperial, Nebraska. Kim and her family attended the Imperial Zion Lutheran Church avidly. She started her education at the District 66 schoolhouse and graduated from Chase County High School in 1977.
She worked for her dad on the family farm starting at a young age through her associate years at the NCTA campus in Curtis. She applied her vet tech degree working for Kenny Krausnick DVM in Imperial.
Kim met Garth West the evening of the 1979 Stratton Harvest Dance, and they danced together for many years after in various places. They settled down near his family’s homestead after their Valentine’s Day wedding ceremony in 1981.
In their rural, one-bedroom house, they raised two girls, Montana Dawn and Nevada Jean, before moving into town in 1992. Kim worked as a vet tech in Stratton for Rick Brown DVM of Western Plains Veterinary Service.
She continued her arts and crafts hobby during this time and eventually moved on to cooking at the Stratton school. She  continued her craft passion through her involvement in Tempting Treasures, a formal dress and flower business.
She was an active member of the Stratton Ball Association as well as the Stratton Rec Club. Through many of those years she spent countless hours in her lawn and garden and spent many evenings with friends playing cards and at morning coffees.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Donna Pflum, brother Charles, sister Kaye Eskew and father-in-law Arwyn West.
Survivors include her husband Garth West; daughter Montana (Zack) Ringer and  daughter Nevada (Jason) Lytle; sister Kelly Pflum; brother-in-law Frank (Angie) West; mother-in-law Lois West; and four grand-children: Colten, Riatta and Sedar Ringer and Aiden Lytle; along with uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
There was no visitation, cremation was her request. Services were held Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial with the Rev. David Kahle officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
