Longhorn boys season ends with loss to Ogallala, 46-82

The CCS Longhorn boys basketball team faced the Ogallala Indians in the second round of the C1-11 subdistrict tournament Tuesday, Feb. 20.
Ogallala’s defense was solid, not allowing the Horns to penetrate inside. Couple that with some hot shooting from the Indians and it spelled doom for the Longhorns.
CCS fell behind quickly, only scoring seven in the first quarter, while allowing Ogallala to drop in 23. The Horns didn’t look bad, but the Indians couldn’t do any wrong. Even when a pass would go wayword of the target, it would sail right into the hands of another Indian.
The deficit from the first quarter was just too large and despite their best efforts, there was no catching up for the Horns.
Ogallala added 16 more in the second quarter, while CCS only scored eight. The Indians outscored CCS in the final two quarters 17-24 and 14-19 to win the game 46-82 and advance to the subdistrict final on Thursday to face Cozad.
CCS had 20 turnovers in the game, resulting in 27 points. On the flip side, Ogallala only turned it over six times, resulting in three points for the Longhorns.
The Longhorns had a good night from the charity stripe, hitting 13 of 19 for 68% but the Indians hit 14 of 17 for 82%. Ogallala also had 19 transition points to Chase County’s three.
Cameron Lempke led the Longhorns scoring with 14 followed by Jensen Olsen with 10.
The Indians had five players score in double digits, Jack Rezac and Caden Rezac each scored 14, Sawyer Smith, Rylan Gilmore and Edan Cain followed with 11.
In the subdistrict finals Thursday Feb. 22, it was Cozad coming out on top of Ogallala, 61-59.
That will send Cozad, (22-4), to the C1-7 district final in Central City to play Douglas County West, (21-3), for a trip to the state tournament.
Ogallala advanced to the C1-5 district finals on wildcard points to face Conestoga, (21-3), at Kearney High.
Douglas County West beat Cozad Monday in the district finals, 46-31.
Ogallala punched their ticket to the state tournament by beating Conestoga, 77-42.
