Girls wrestling has a great start at Chase County Schools

Head wrestling coach, Matt Vlasin was surprised when he ended up with six wrestlers on the first year girls team.
Vlasin said he knew that two girls were going out and was pleasantly surprised when the team ended up six strong.
Two years ago the NSAA had a trial year of girls wrestling and an imprompto state tournament that had no qualification required. The 22-23 season was the first actual sanctioned season for the girls and this season was the first for the Longhorns.
Taking two girls to the state tournament is quite an accomplishment in the first year.
The team will be losing two seniors, Iris Robles and Brooke Schilke and gain at least one freshman. Vlasin noted that he had no idea how many girls may decide to give wrestling a try.
Being the first year, Vlasin said the only records recorded would be single season records.
Brooke Schilke now holds the record of 58 takedowns in a season along with the record for most pins, with 22.
Haley Rusher has the record for best season record at 22-6.
