Chase County girls cruised to victory at Don Stine Invite

The Longhorn girls showed that age doesn’t matter in winning the Don Stine Invite in Cambridge on Monday, April 8. The Horns were missing some team members to FBLA but that didn’t keep them from winning by a huge margin.
Enroute to the win, CCS had two events that four girls scored in, four with three scoring, five with two and six with one person scoring, including seven first place finishes and scoring in every event.
Girls coach Troy Hauxwell was pleased with the fact that if someone was missing in a race, some of the younger girls offered to step into the spot and most did a very good job.
The Horns took third, fifth and sixth in the 100 meter dash with Riley Rusher and Ella Colson both breaking the 13 second mark in third and fifth  and Haley Rusher sixth.
Adelle Eskew got in the mix in the 200 with a sixth place finish to go with R. Rusher in third, Colson in fourth and H. Rusher in fifth.
Freshman Avery Beemer stepped in to run the 400 as did sophomore Haley Rusher and they placed fifth and seventh respectively.
The Horns took first, second, fifth and sixth in the 1600. Landree McNair won the race so she will have her name on the traveling trophy until next year.
In the 3200, Tessa Smith, Anna Aragon and Paige Nickless took second, third and fourth.
Peyton Owens was in good form when she took first in both hurdle races, followed closely by Tristan Nordhausen and Karli Anderson.
CCS won the 4x100, 4x400 and was second in the 4x800.
With Brooke Schilke gone, it was up to Kylee Wiest and Mya White in the throws. Wiest claimed fourth in the shot and sixth in the discus, while White had personal bests in both events but missed out on the top eight.
In the high jump, three girls went out at the top height so it went back to how many and when each jumper missed in lower jumps. Payton Truska of Southwest took the win, with Landree McNair second and Karlie Anderson third.
Avery Beemer won the pole vault, clearing 9’. She decided since she had the win to set the next height at the meet record height but after failing on her first attempt, it was decided it was to dangerous with the high wind to try again.
Katelyn Stamm continues to jump well placing fourth in the long jump and winning the triple jump with a personal best of 34’ 9.75”.  Adelle Eskew was just returning from a previous injury and placed seventh in the long jump. Peyton Owens claimed second in the triple jump when she leaped a personal best 33’ 10”.
