Although it looked like Haley Rusher had Hayden Boles of Hay Springs pinned at the end of the second period, there was no slap of the mat and the match continued. Rusher secured a tech-fall victory, 16-0 to punch her ticket into the district tournament.

CCS advances three girls to district wrestling

    Chase County girls have three wrestlers that advanced to district competition from the sub-districts held in Perkins County Feb. 3. Being the first year for the girls wrestling division, a unique feature to the tournament was to take the four wrestlers that advanced to the finals and the consolation finals.
    No finals matches took place at sub-districts. NSAA decided the wrestlers would be seeded at the district tournament so the finals weren’t needed. Being the first year of girls wrestling, it is a work in progress.
    The Longhorns had six girls compete at sub-districts, with three advancing to the district tournament Friday in Broken Bow.
    Naveah Martin at 105 pounds, Haley Rusher at 145 and Brooke Schilke at 155 will all get a chance to make it to Omaha for the state meet, Febr. 15-17.
    Martin lost her match in the semi-finals but bounced back with a win in the consolation semi-finals to qualify.
    Rusher and Schilke both went undefeated on the day, advancing to the finals to punch their tickets to districts.
    Lizbet Mireles and Iris Robles both made it to the consolation semi-finals, only to get knocked out of the tournament one win short of advancing.
    Kiara Nau wrestled at 135 pounds and went 0-2 on the day.

120—Lizbet Mireles (12-13) was pinned by Saije Phelps (SHV) 1:00, bye, pinned Lauren Garner (HEM) 2:04, pinned Cydney Vincent-Bruns (CON) 1:51, lost by decision to Ivana Sagitteh (ON) 0-7.
125—Iris Robles (6-12) bye, was pinned by Ariana Blume (VAL) 1:19, bye, bye, was pinned by Ivana Sagitteh (ON) 0:57.
135—Kiara Nau (2-10) bye, was pinned by Ann Marie Meiman (ON) 0:46, bye, was pinned by Brooklyn Brown (NP) 0:24.
145—Haley Rusher (19-1) bye, pinned Miracle Trevino (SCB) 1:26, won by tech-fall over Hayden Boles (HASP) 16-0 to advance to districts.
155—Brooke Schilke (25-8) bye, pinned Bailee French (MOR) 0:55, pinned Caylee O’Brien (NP) 3:27 to advance to districts.
