Broncos win in football season opener over Banner County

    The Wauneta/Palisade Broncos took control of the game early Friday in Harrisburg and went on to take a lopsided victory 39-10.
    The Broncos scored first in the opening quarter with a five yard run by Blake Nickerson. The following two point conversion gave the Broncos an 8-0 lead. Nickerson followed that up with another touch down run of six yards. The extra point attempt by Gabe McCrumb failed making it a 14-0 lead.
    Banner County got on the board in the first quarter with a 32 yard field goal. After stopping the Broncos on their next possession Banner County started driving on the Broncos but Kreyton put a stop to the drive picking up a fumble and returning it for a Bronco touch down.
    Nickerson added another rushing touch down of 8 yards  to bring the halftime score to 27-3.
    The third quarter saw a back and forth exchange until Draven Miner hit Grayden Sutherland for a 37 yard touchdown pass. The extra point by Miner failed making it a 33-3 game.
    Banner County was able to finish a drive in the fourth quarter with a one yard touch down run. The kick was good.
    The final score of the game came when Blake Nickerson broke free for a 52 yard scamper to seal the win 39-10.
    The Broncos where able to gain 275 total yards while holding Banner County to just 108 of which only six were rushing yards.
    Both coaches were pleased with a good effort from the team and credited a good game plan that was executed well.
Upcoming action
    This Friday brings South Platte (Big Springs) to town for a 6 p.m. match-up. South Platte lost their opener to Southwest 19-47 in their season opener.
