Broncos battle at RPAC, Best of the Midwest

The Wauneta-Palisade track teams continues to see elite competition each week as the end of the regular season approaches.
Many of Class D’s top performers were on the track in Arapahoe last Thursday for the RPAC meet.
The Broncos’ boys team had an especially tough time. WP’s only points came from eighth-place finishes in the 400-meter relay and 1,600-meter relays. WP did have nine boys set personal bests at the meet.
Peyton Cox had the best performance of the day. Cox’s PR of 39’9” in the shot put won her the conference title.
McKenna Doetker reached the finals of the 100-meter dash with a PR in the prelims, Cheyenne Parrish was sixth in the 200-meter dash and Emma Acton had personal bests while finishing seventh in the 300-meter hurdles and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles.
In field events, Lillian Dinnel jumped her way to second place in the high jump,  GraCee Goings was seventh in both the shot put and discus and Parrish was sixth in the triple jump.
Acton, Parrish, Izabelle Stehno and Doetker placed fourth in the 400-meter relay and Acton, Jewel Holthus, Doetker and Parrish placed fifth in the 1,600-meter relay.
WP’s girls team set eight personal bests.
Tuesday, the Broncos participated in five events at Best of the Midwest.
The 4x1 relay placed fifth and the 4x4 relay took seventh place.
Cox finished second in the shot put, Dinnel was third in the high jump and Parrish and Dinnel placed fifth and seventh, respectively, in triple jump. Parrish set a personal best in triple jump.
Up next
The week will continue to be tough. Friday the Broncos travel to the Dundy County Stratton Twilight meet. Also there will be Chase County, Perkins County and Maywood/Hayes Center.
The D-7 district will be hosted by Medicine Valley Wednesday in McCook. Also attending will be the RPAC’s Arapahoe, Bertrand, Cambridge, Dundy County Stratton, Hitchcock County, Maywood-Hayes Center, Medicine Valley, Southern Valley, Southwest and Wallace. Loomis will be the only non-RPAC team at the meet.
