Top novice awards earned by CCS speech team

    On Saturday, the Chase County speech team headed to a speech invite at Perkins County.
    Sixteen out of the 22 students on the CCS team attended the meet.
    The CCS team placed third overall. Perkins County won the contest with Ogallala in second place. Sixteen teams competed.
    “At this meet, top novice or first-time/beginner speakers are recognized,” said speech coach Alex Schilke.
    “CCS has three top novices,” she noted.
    Students awarded with top novice recognition were Paige Nickless in Humorous, George Colton, Zach Herbert and Andrew Wiest in Oral Interpretation of Drama and Aragorn Green in Poetry.
    Overall, six CCS students placed in the competition.
    The trio of Herbert, Colton and Wiest placed first in OID.
    Brayan Cazares placed 2nd in Serious.
    In Poetry, Green placed 2nd and Jasmine Johnson earned 6th.
    In Entertainment speaking, Annika McDaniel finished 7th.
    Paige Nickless placed 8th in Humorous Speaking.
