Colton, Wiest March students of the month

Chase County Schools (CCS) Staff in correlation with CCS’ Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Team have nominated and selected March’s Students of the Month. Students of the Month are nominated by staff members based on positive qualities or actions that teachers have observed which go above and beyond the usual expectations. The nominations are reviewed by the PBIS team and two students are picked based on the number of nominations and what was observed by the nominators. March’s Students of the Month are George Colton and Kylee Wiest
George Colton is a Junior at Chase County Schools. He is the son of Nick and Jennifer Colton. George is an active participant in many activities at CCS. He is a member of One Act, Speech, Quiz Bowl, STEM and Esports. George always makes sure that others feel welcomed and at home in our school hallways.
Mr. Anderson had the following to say about George, “George is always willing to go above and beyond what is asked of him. He does not shy away from a challenge and is always willing to do what needs to be done. In the classroom he is someone that his peers look up to for guidance and reassurance. He recognizes this position and uses it to help others succeed. He does not make others feel inferior because they do not understand something, but instead helps them gain understanding. However, his positive traits do not end in the academic setting. George is a student that is looked up to by both his peers and those younger than him. He shows kindness and care for all around him and is always willing to help someone else learn, even if it is inconvenient for him. The way that I have seen him interact with the younger students in our school is always positive and rewarding. They look up to him and he takes that responsibility seriously being a great role model for them to follow. He knows the value of making others feel valued. He knows what a kind word can do for someone and how a positive interaction can mean the world to another. George’s impact on this school is beyond measure. I am proud to nominate George for Student of the Month and believe that he is overly deserving of this award. Mrs. Alex Schilke also nominated George twice for Student of the Month, “George always greets me and any other teacher in the hallway whenever he passes by on his way to class or practice. He interacts in positive ways with the junior high kids (which can be hard as a high schooler). He responds when they talk to him, and they see him as a role model. Most importantly, he is the best cheerleader/leader for our speech team. He constantly praises other members on their success. He has helped bring more students to the team through his positivity and success. In speech, George has taken on the role of leader and he is an accountable one at that. He helps build up his team. He is the first to congratulate anyone and he is the first to say thank you. His work ethic is top-tier. He puts the time and energy in to be successful and he doesn’t complain. He is an excellent role model and an overall super positive kid. I think he is more than deserving of Student of the Month.” Mrs. Fortkamp rounded out the nominations for George, “When I was assisting in One Act, George was always very positive, polite, did everything asked of him, treated his classmates with respect and also his coaches. He is a kind and funny kiddo!”
Our second winner is Kylee Wiest. Kylee is a senior at Chase County Schools and the daughter of Cole and Kim Wiest. Kylee is an active member of FFA, Volleyball, Basketball, Blood Drive and Track and Field at CCS. Kylee will be greatly missed next year in our hallways.
Mrs. Angie Paisley had the following to say about Kylee, “Kylee has been on the CCS Blood Drive Team since her sophomore year. She has become an important part of the team by demonstrating positive leadership and taking initiative in getting things done. “She runs the show,” a team member commented. She makes the donors feel at ease during the donation process and strikes up conversations with people she doesn’t know. One donor commented that he was a little nervous because he had never donated blood before but Kylee visited with him the whole time he was donating and kept his mind off of what was going on. He has become a frequent donor due to her making the process a positive experience. Kylee also donates blood regularly. Kylee is a Certified Nursing Assistant and works part time at Imperial Manor where she is a “Ray of Sunshine” for the residents . Kylee plans on becoming a Registered Nurse and I know she will be a good one.” Mr. Anderson also had kind words to share about Kylee, “Kylee is an active leader for the girl throwers on the track team. Her presence and leadership has helped out on a team that is full of younger students. She has helped to build up our young girl throwers. Outside of track she is always a positive and happy face to see in our hallways. She is willing to help when needed and does what is asked, even if it is not her responsibility.”
Congratulations once again to George and Kylee for being selected Chase County High School’s March Students of the Month!!
