CCS Speech team continues to hone their skills

Chase County’s Speech Team had its work cut out for it once more Saturday. After attending the North Platte Blue and Gold Invite last week, CCS faced another tough task at this week’s Ogallala Invite.
Head Coach Alex Schilke said the meet was huge.
“There were over 24 teams and 529 entries. The competition was tough, but our speakers received excellent feedback to help continue their growth,” she said.
As has been a theme of the season, CCS was shorthanded at the invite as team members were  students traveling with family, showing cattle and other commitments.
Much like the Blue and Gold Invite, finalists were divided into Champs, first through sixth, and Honors, seventh through 11th.
George Colton was Chase County’s only participant to place. Colton was seventh overall after finishing first in the Honors division of Entertainment.
Also participating was Andrew Wiest in Humor and Serious, Jasmine Johnson in Entertainment, Chloe Colton and Andee Schoenholz in Duet, Emily Randall in Poetry and Katelyn Stamm in Poetry.
Gothenburg was first in the team standings with 189 points. Gering was second with 154 points.
Trailing those teams were Broken Bow, Scottsbluff, Bridgeport, Perkins County, Holdrege, Ogallala, Potter-Dix, North Platte, Maywood, Dundy County Stratton, Sutherland, Chase County, Garden County, Sidney, Paxton, Hershey and Alliance.
CCS traveled to Hershey Wednesday for SPVA.
After a weekend off, Chase County will be at Maxwell March 2 before districts in Wallace March 15.
