CCS competes in eSports tournament

Chase County Schools has an eSports team that engages in competitions with the video games Mario Kart 8: Deluxe and Overwatch 2. Last Wednesday, the Republican attended the team’s Mario Kart event. The game is played slightly differently from the traditional way.
The rules of team composition are that each school has two teams of four with substitutes and if a team is to play, all four must be available. For gameplay, the speed is set at 150cc, no in-game teams are allowed, all items are permitted, no computer players, all vehicles are permitted and no tracks from the DLC are allowed to be selected. A match consists of four races and the teammates’ placements at the end of each race are added together. The points for the corresponding placement are as follows:
1st = 10
2nd = 8
3rd = 6
4th = 5
5th = 4
6th = 3
7th = 2
8th = 1
After all races are completed, the scores are added together and whichever team’s score is higher wins. In the case of a tie, one last race is held and that score is added to the original. Since there are teams of multiple people on the same side, there is some interpersonal strategizing on the use of items picked up. For example, if someone picks up the Spiny Shell (That’s it actual name, not the “Blue Shell” to our surprise) it would be a bad idea to use it if the person in 1st place is on the same team.
Team 1, comprising of Kevin Dannatt, Tuck Hubbard, Evan Tomky, Dominic Harris and Jackson Cyboron competed against the team of Hershey Public Schools on the four courses of Toad Harbor with a score of 15, Mario Kart Stadium with a score of 24, Thwomp Ruins with a score of 20, and Yoshi Valley with a score of 25. They won in the first round of the winter playoffs at 79-77.
Team 2, comprising of Beau Weiss, Jonathen Coon, Chloe Dittler, Bailey Cook and Kyson Vogt competed against Ord Public Schools on the four courses of DK Jungle with a score of 10, Yoshi Circuit with a score of 13, Royal Raceway with a score of 17, and Toad Harbor with a score of 13. They lost to Ord at 53-103
