Area bands, choirs compete at SPVA music contests

Local students have participated in a couple music contests recently. Chase County Students competed at SPVA Conference in North Platte on March 19. Performances were scored with a 1 or a 2 with a 1 being the best students can receive.
Three performances were awarded the honor of Best of Conference. This means that they were chosen by the judges as some of the top performances of the day. James Adle was chosen for his trumpet solo. Zach Herbert, Andrew Wiest, Kaden Vogt and James McArthur were chosen for their Veggie Tales quartet. Finally, Beau Weiss and Alexa Alarcon were picked for their mixed duet. These performances also received a score of 1.
Other instrumental performances that received a 1 were Hope Reinke (flute solo), Jesus Medina (trombone solo), Kaden Vogt (euphonium solo), Navy Smith (piano solo), Alexa Alarcon, Adan Mireles and James Adle (trumpet trio), Alexa Alarcon, Adan Mireles and Austin Smith (trumpet trio) and Alyssa Schilke and Kara Baird (tenor sax duet).
Vocal performances earning a 1 include Kadence Wallin and Adilynn Russel (girl’s duet), Beau Weiss (medium solo), Andrew Wiest (medium solo), Anna Aragon (medium solo), Tessa Smith (medium solo).
Instrumental acts that received a 2 were James and Kaden McArthur (tuba duet) (2+), Andrew Wiest (piano solo) (2+), Zach Herbert (trombone solo), Chloe Dittler (French horn solo), Kyson Vogt (euphonium solo), Brendan Pump (alto sax solo) (2-) and Krystal Smith (trumpet solo) (2-).
Vocal performances that were scored 2 include Athziry Valenzuela and Denisse Guillen (girl’s duet), Juan De La Fuente III (medium solo), Olivia Spady (high solo), Navy Havel (medium solo) and Aria McNair (high solo) (2+).
The CCS jazz band, Simply Jazz, also earned a 1. The 9th Street Singers show choir was chosen as the 1st runner up in the show choir competition.
District Music Contest
On Thursday, April 18, many area schools attended the District Music Contest held in McCook. Students spend countless hours preparing their performances for this event. Students are scored a 1–the highest–or a 2.
Wauneta-Palisade student Hailea Baker received a 1 for her vocal solo. Kisha Jameson earned 2 for her vocal solo. The WP Treble Choir was awarded a 2 for their performance.
Many CCS students participated, as well. Receiving a 1 for their vocal performances are Beau Weiss and Alexa Alarcon (mixed duet), Athziry Valenzuela and Navy Havel (girls duet), Kadence Wallin and Adilynn Russell (girls duet), Anna Aragon (medium solo), Navy Havel (medium solo), Olivia Spady (high solo) and Aria McNair (high solo) (Superior rating).
On the instrumental side of things, those that earned a 1 include, Navy Smith (piano solo), Andrew Wiest (piano solo), Alexa Alarcon, James Adle and Adan Mireles (trumpet trio) and James Adle (trombone solo)(Superior rating).
Earning a score of 2 include Olivia Spady and Anna Aragon (girls duet), Juan De La Fuente III (medium solo), Tessa Smith (medium solo), Beau Weiss (medium solo).
Instrumental performances receiving a 2 were Brendan Pump (alto sax solo), Zach Herbert (trombone solo), Kaden Vogt (euphonium solo), Jesus Medina (trombone solo), Kyson Vogt (euphonium solo) and Hope Reinke (flute solo).
The CCS Concert Choir received a 2. Both the Trebles Choir and the 9th Street Singers Show Choir received a score of 1 and a Superior rating. The CCHS jazz band, Simply Jazz also received a score of 1 and a Superior rating.
Students work hard throughout the spring semester to prepare their pieces and these contests are a chance for them to show what they’ve done.
