Tillie G. Lucas was born Nov. 21, 1931, in Brandon, Colorado, to Joseph and Helen (Kulchar) Sinka. As a young girl she grew up and attended school in the Brandon-Lamar, Colorado area.
On May 5, 1950, Tillie married Kenneth R. Lucas in Raton, New Mexico, with their aunt Mary and uncle Earl standing up for them. To this union five children were born: Dennis, Richard, Karen, Tena and Dena. The couple made their home North of Lamar, Colorado, where she was busy assisting with the farming, working at Duckwalls and raising the family. In 1970, they moved to a farm west of Wauneta, Nebraska and Tillie assisted with the farming and decorated cakes for sale. Tillie and Kenneth moved to Wauneta in 1975, where they owned and operated Kendeta’s Drive Inn. Tillie later cooked at the Wauneta Senior Center and served in custodial duties at the Wauneta U.S. Post Office. She then operated the T and L Catering Service and the R and L Variety Store in Wauneta until retirement.
Tillie was a 4-H leader and later a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Wauneta. Tillie enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, painting cameo/tri-chem items, and gardening. She especially loved to watch baseball and spend time with her family and friends.
Tillie passed away Monday, Oct. 23, 2023, at the Chase County Community Hospital, Imperial. Tillie was 91 years of age.
Tillie was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 1981; son and daughter-in-law Dennis (Charlotte) Lucas; daughter and son-in-law Karen (Loren) Doetker; granddaughter Christina Doetker; sisters and their husbands Mary (George) Dieterle Jr., Ida (Jack) Mayhew, Bertha (Henry) Beaman; brothers and their wives Joe (Kathy) Sinka, Algert (Rosie) Sinka, Irene (Joe) Barker; brothers and sisters-in-law Robert Lucas, Lloyd (Dorothy) Lucas, Clyde (Virgie) Lucas; and uncle Earl and aunt Mary Cooter.
Survivors include son Rick (Dawn) Lucas of Council Grove, Kansas; daughters Tena (Earl) Craighead of North Platte and Dena Lucas (Bob Jones) of Wauneta; grandchildren Natasha, Abel, Caleb, Ruben, Brooke, Brittany, Lisa, Kay, Michelle, Chad and Diane; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Aleta “Sis” Lucas of Trinidad, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 27, 2023 at Liewer Funeral Home of Wauneta, with Pastor Gary Hunt officiating. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta.
Visitation was held Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023 with the family greeting the public at Liewer Funeral Home, Wauneta.
Memorials in Tillie’s memory have been suggested to the Wauneta Rural Volunteer Fire Department and the Wauneta EMS.
