Darryl Edward Howard

Darryl Edward Howard was born Dec. 10, 1946, in Imperial, Nebraska, to LaVeta (Bernard) and Johnnie Edward Howard.
He grew up on a farm west of Hayes Center, where he attended school and graduated from Hayes Center High School with the class of 1965. Darryl continued his education at McCook Community College where he majored in agriculture.
On Aug. 12, 1967, Darryl married Ronda Troutman in McCook and the couple first settled in Hayes Center.
Darryl was inducted in the U.S. Army on Feb. 20, 1968, where he served his country in Vietnam, raising to the rank of Sergeant, until his honorable discharge on Sept. 23, 1969. After returning home Darryl and Ronda farmed in several locations near Stratton and Palisade. They later made Wauneta their home until present. Darryl, along with farming, began a livestock trucking operation, including his sons Nick and J.J., which is known as DNJ Trucking.
Darryl was a member of the VFW and the American Legion of Palisade and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially loved spending time with his family.
Darryl passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, at his home in Wauneta. He was 76 years of age.
Darryl was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Survivors include wife Ronda of Wauneta; Sons Nick Howard of Palisade and J.J. Howard of Goodland, Kansas; one granddaughter Casee Tobiasson and husband, Josh, of Maywood; two great-grandchildren Dallas and Zoey Tobiasson of Maywood; and brother-in-law Gary Troutman and wife Marie of Littleton, Colorado.
Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 18, 1 p.m. (CT) at the Palisade Cemetery, Palisade, with full military honors.
A memorial in Darryl’s memory has been suggested to the donor’s choice.
