Wedding: Emily Spady and Michael DeJonge

Emily Marie Spady and Michael Adam DeJonge were united in marriage on April 24, 2021 at an afternoon ceremony at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege with Pastor Kenton Birtell officiating.
The bride, escorted down the aisle by her father, wore a fitted strapless ivory gown featuring an embroidered lace overlay and graceful demi train. A lace border enhanced the fingertip- length veil, which cascaded below an emerald green crystal hair ornament. Emily’s delicate diamond heart pendant was a gift from the groom, and she carried a dozen deep pink roses accented with baby’s breath and eucalyptus.
Attending the bride were Stephanie Varilek of Lamar, who served as her sister’s matron of honor, and Sarah Hunter of Lincoln, friend of the bride. Both wore flowing emerald green spaghetti- strap gowns and carried singles sprays of pale pink silk blossoms. Flower girl, Katherine Varilek, niece of the bride, was dressed in ivory lace and scattered silk petals from an emerald green wicker basket.
The groom wore a classic black tuxedo with a white dress shirt, black vest and tie and a pink rose boutonniere. Standing with him as best man was his brother, Nathan DeJonge, of Kearney. The groom’s friend, Alex Beck, of Holdrege was groomsman. Their black tuxedos matched the groom’s but featured emerald green vest ties and pocket squares.
Carrying the rings were the bride’s nephews: Collin Varilek and Christopher Varilek, wearing black suits with emerald green bowties.
Eva Forkner of Funk, sister of the groom, lit the altar candles, which were flanked by arrangements of gerbera daisies and greenery. A tulle-draped arch trellis framed the bride and groom as they recited their vows.
Music was provided by Linda Varilek on the piano, friend of the bride from Lamar, and vocalist Stephanie Varilek, the bride’s sister.
Gavin and Aiden Forkner from Funk, brothers of the groom, were in charge of the guestbook and programs.
Following the ceremony, a reception with dinner and dance was held at the Holdrege Eagles Club, where decorations repeated the emerald and ivory color scheme.
Emily, daughter of Kyle and Dana Spady of Brady, graduated from Chase County High school in Imperial before completing cosmetology and barbering training at La’ James college in Fremont and earning both licenses. She is employed as a stylist at E-Klips Salon in Holdrege.
Michael is the son of Robyn and Ed Forkner of Funk and Lonnie and Nicole DeJonge of Holdrege. He is a graduate of Holdrege High School and attended Southeast Community College in Milford where he earned an associate’s degree in building construction. He is working as a foreman for Skiles Construction in Holdrege.
After enjoying a week-long honeymoon in Branson, Missouri, the newlyweds are now making their home in Funk.
